Below you will find answers to many common questions about Chowan Gives 2023.
What is Chowan Gives?
Chowan Gives is celebrating our 175th Anniversary by having 1,848 minutes for alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends to show their pride and support their passion for Chowan! You are invited to participate by wearing your Chowan gear, posting photos and videos on social media and giving to an area close to your heart.
Can anyone participate in Chowan Gives?
Absolutely. Support from the ENTIRE Chowan community is what makes our University a remarkable place! No matter the designation or amount, your donation will be counted toward our Chowan Gives goal of $175,000.
I want to create my own challenge or match, how do I get involved?
First of all, thank you! Please reach out to us in the Advancement Office to discuss setting up a challenge or match for Chowan Gives.
If you want to create a challenge or match for Chowan Gives and are a Chowan Champion, simply navigate to your Champion homepage and scroll to the bottom. There you will click on the "Create a New Challenge/Match" button and follow the steps!
Can I make a gift before Chowan Gives and have it count?
If you are unable to support Day of Giving on April 5-6, 2023, but still want to participate, you can make your gift early by clicking the grey bar at the top of the page that says to click here! If you do not want to make your donation online please contact the Advancement Office at (252) 398-1233.
If I am a faculty or staff member that gives through payroll deduction will my gift be counted in the Chowan Gives total?
Yes! If you wish to have your payroll deduction count towards our goal, then you have that option. Please contact the Advancement Office if you would like your payroll deduction to be counted.
Do I have to make my gift online?
No, you do not have to make your gift online; however, this is our preferred method for Chowan Gives. If you would like to discuss your options, please contact Twyla Duke at (252) 398-1233 or by email at duket@chowan.edu, to learn about other ways to participate in Chowan Gives.
Are employer matching gifts accepted?
Yes, but due to processing restrictions, matching gifts may not be counted in the overall dollar total for Chowan Gives.
Matching gifts from the company or organization you work for double the impact of your gift.
Can my donation be anonymous?
Yes, you can make your gift anonymously by simply selecting the box on the giving form.
What are challenge and matching gifts?
Challenge and matching gifts help increase support for student scholarships, special initiatives, and areas of need across campus. Participating in challenge and matching opportunities on Chowan Gives is a great way to multiply the impact of your support. A complete list of challenges will be on the Challenges page, and active matches and challenges can be viewed on the main landing page and participating group landing page for the specific area.
Don't forget, anyone can create a challenge or matching opportunity!
Why is it important to be counted in on April 5-6?
Chowan Gives is not a spectator sport. It's all about joining in and being counted. The more alumni, family, and friends who give, the more people we can reach and inspire to give as well. It's that simple. And that's why it's important to show that #ChowanGives!
When is Chowan Gives?
Chowan Gives begins at 8:00 AM on Wednesday, April 5, and will run until 3:00 PM on Thursday, April 6. We are celebrating our 175th Anniversary with 1,848 minutes!
What is a Chowan Champion?
Champions are Chowan's digital leaders who share messages and create excitement about Chowan Gives before and during. With an investment of a few minutes, Champions help spread awareness—asking their network to participate in Chowan Gives using their preferred forms of communication: email, text, phone, and social media. If you are interested in becoming a Champion, you can register here or email chowanchampion@chowan.edu with questions.
Can I direct my donation to something specific?
You decide! Support the area of campus that is important to YOU. This year we are excited to offer challenges where gifts will be matched, as well as the opportunity for you to create your own challenge as a Champion. Visit the Challenges page to learn more about each of the challenges.
Is my gift tax deductible?
Yes. Chowan University is a charitable organization and a 501c3.
What if I don't see my area of interest in the participating groups?
If you are not able to find the area you would like to support, you can select any Area of Campus, then select "Other" in the Fund Designation drop down menu, and type in the program and/or fund name you wish to support. We will ensure your gift is designated appropriately.
What does "Specific Designation" mean?
By selecting Specific Designation, you are directing your donation to exactly what you want to support. The "Other" selection in the "Specific Designation" allows you to further direct your donation. Simply type what you want to support within the "Other" selection.
