Teacher Education
Welcome to the Department of Teacher Education

Chowan University’s Department of Teacher Education produces esteemed teachers for elementary and secondary school careers year after year. All our students are committed to academic and teaching excellence, exemplified by the “Teacher of the Year” Awards they regularly receive.

Chowan produces teachers who believe in the worth and dignity of every student and who have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to facilitate learning for all students in a diverse society. Chowan instills within these future teachers the professional belief system that all students can learn. Our commitment to this powerful belief is what distinguishes Chowan among the other teacher education schools.

Chowan realizes that you cannot teach every student in the same way, so we arm our graduates with a wide repertoire of teaching strategies and skills in order to reach them all.

Our Mission Statement

The mission of teacher preparation at Chowan University is to prepare committed professionals to provide quality instruction for all learners. This mission aligns with the University’s commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarly inquiry, and service in a Judeo-Christian environment. Through rigorous curricula, modeled pedagogy, and careful program planning, the School of Education equips its graduates with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to educate all students in an ever-changing, diverse world.

Friends of Teacher Education Scholarship

The Friends of Teacher Education Scholarship is given by the generosity of the Chowan Friends of Teacher Education (CFTE) and is awarded to full-time students who have been accepted to Chowan University and have declared Teacher Education as their major. Learn more.
